Winners Announced for the Eat Local Thanksgiving 2009 Contest!

Dec 2009 - It was a tough choice for the judges - we had a wonderful selection of mouth-watering submissions for our 2009 Thank-Your-Farmers contest - but the final votes are in at last.  Here they are:

First Prize goes to Amy Worrell Kneller and Byron Kneller and their Vegetarian Thanksgiving for Seven.  Their feast started with appetizers such as Mt. Townsend Creamery Cirrus Camembert with toasts, then moved to a first course of cauliflower and romanesco bisque, a meatless main course with numerous side dishes featuring potatoes, pumpkin, leaks, Brussels sprouts, radicchio, apples and hazelnuts.  Desserts were red wine poached pears and Cinderella pumpkin squares with praline crumbles and whipped cream.  They sourced from the Broadway Farmers Market.  Congratulations Amy and Byron!  You can view their recipes and photos on Amy's blog at

Second Prize goes to Kathy Pelham and her family's dinner featuring traditional roast turkey with crudités, herbed fromage blanc, and other cheeses to start, roasted winter vegetables, mashed baby potatoes, cranberry quince chutney and cranberry sauce, and for dessert, pumpkin pie with whipped cream.  Most of the ingredients came from the U-District market.  Congratulations Kathy and family!  You can view recipes here.

Third Prize goes to Annette Cottrell's First Annual Sustainable Thanksgiving Feast featuring a smoked turkey and numerous delicious side dishes that you can view on her very own blog:  Congratulations Annette!

We would also like to give honorable mention to Anita Ellison's "Be Thankful" Dinner, Liz Fikejs's feast, and Michelle & Andrew Haines' dinner.

First prize winner will recieve a meal cooked in their own home by nationally-known local chef Tamara Murphy of Brasa Restaurant. Second place prize: $100 shopping spree at any of our seven Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets, plus two bottles of wine from market farmers, and a Farmers Market apron.  Third place prize: $75 Farmers Market gift certificate, one bottle of wine and a Farmers Market apron.

A huge THANK YOU on behalf of all our farmers to everyone who entered the contest and did such a wonderful job of featuring local, seasonal ingredients, and to everyone who's using local ingredients this holiday season! web by NPower Seattle
