Opening day at Broadway 2011 - Blessing by the Sisters

May 8, 2011:  The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, The Abbey of St. Joan is an order of 21st century queer nuns dedicated to the promulgation of universal joy and expiating stigmatic guilt. Although a large part of our mission is fund-raising for local 501(c)3 non-profits, often focused on services specifically related to HIV/AIDS, part of our mission is also supporting the local communities where we live. Today we’re here to ask a blessing on this Farmers Market.

May our community be strengthened by this weekly gathering where we can meet and play and laugh and sing while gathering the things we need to live happy, healthy lives.

May the support we give to local farmers encourage them to strive to act as stewards of the Earth we share.

May the work of our local farmers, fishermen, ranchers and artisans produce healthy foods to nourish us.

May the rains sweep gently across your fields,
May the sun warm the land,
May every good seed you have planted bear fruit,
And late summer find you standing in fields of plenty.

May the work of your hands bring forth “deliciousness” to tantalize our taste buds, add beauty to our lives, and feed our bodies and souls.

May our community be strengthed as we gather weekly at the market, and may shoppers always remember to bring your own reusable grocery bags.
