Fresh - Local - Fun - At Seattle's Neighborhood Farmers Markets!
This week Arugula is plentiful along with multiple varieties of Raab. Leeks and Cauliflower are making their first appearance at Nash’s. Taylor Shellfish has fresh Scallops and flat European Samish Flats Oysters for the next few weeks. At Jerzy Boyz, Cripps Pinks were being sampled. This is lovely apple that goes well in salads as it down not go brown on the plate. Wonderful Soft Ripened Tomme and Wash Rind Tomme available at Mt. Townsend Creamery. New plant starts are also evident including rhubarb and strawberry starts (Stoney Plains Organic Farm). TULIPS, TULIPS & more TULIPS (Alm Hill) bursting with color. Agriculture and Climate Change
"Organic farming contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions because it reduces the consumption of fossil fuels (notably those used in fertilizer manufacturing), and reduces emissions of CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. It also reduces vulnerability of soils to erosion, while at the same time increasing carbon stocks in the soil. Consequently, conversion to organic farming is believed to be a viable way of reducing GHG emissions."
